Position Information
Position Title: Music Director (full time, approx. 40 hrs a week)
Position Description:
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, in the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia, is seeking a full-time Music Director to further develop our rich liturgical music program and support our vision for church growth. The Music Director will be an integral part of the staff team and community, selecting and preparing music to shape and support worship in the ancient and modern Anglican tradition, planning liturgies collaboratively, and offering music programming for all ages. An ideal candidate for this position would demonstrate the ability to conduct an adult choir and a children’s choir and to perform excellently on the organ. The Music Director will work collaboratively to further shape and develop our children’s music programming. They will also work with our music committee to create opportunities for diverse concerts for the wider community.
Organ description: We have a Schantz pipe organ, completed and dedicated in 2003. It is a three manual, electro-pneumatic organ with 58 ranks and 2953 pipes including antiphonals.

Professional Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree is required, advanced degree is preferred
- Experience with organ performance and liturgy
- A passion for directing and developing an adult choir as well as a children’s choir
- An ability to lead, direct, and inspire others
- Strong communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills
- An ability to use or learn word processing, cloud software, and online meeting tools
Duties shall include:
- Enhance our liturgical music program that supports the vision of our church as an Episcopal congregation that seeks to “restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ” as we pray, worship, proclaim the Gospel, and promote justice, peace, and love
- As organist and choirmaster, provide choral and organ music for two Sunday worship services (8 AM and 10:15 AM) and any special services
- Develop our children’s music programming (e.g. Music Academy) while recruiting, administrating and collaborating with volunteers and paid staff
- Ensure the implementation of Safeguarding God’s Children policies, including background checks and training for all those who interact with minors in the music programs
- Collaborate in weekly staff and liturgy planning meetings
- Maintain, organize, and develop the music library, as well as maintain compliance with copyright laws, keep licenses and memberships up to date
- Conduct choir rehearsal midweek and on Sundays
- Recruit, hire and supervise outside musicians and choral section leaders
- Oversee the maintenance and tuning of the organ and pianos
- Convene the Music Committee to organize, fund, and promote our concert series and reinforce donor relations
- Secure a substitute organist and choirmaster during absences
- Prepare and arrange for music and music policies for weddings and funerals
- Prepare and manage the budget for the church’s music programs in collaboration with the Priest-in-Charge/Rector, Finance Committee, and Music Committee.
Compensation Information
- Annual Salary will be commensurate with education and experience and comparable with those at similar churches in the Savannah area
