Director of Music/Organist/Pianist

Spring Garden Lutheran Church (ELCA) of Cannon Falls, MN is accepting resumes for these positions by Sept. 24, 2021.

We are a vibrant faith community with a strong music tradition and are seeking interested candidates for interviews. The positions may be filled by one or more candidates depending on the qualifications and interests of applicants. 

Director of Music duties include:

1. Work cooperatively with the Pastors, organist, children’s choirs and ensembles, instrumental ensembles, staff, volunteers, and the Worship and Music Committee in planning and providing worship service music. Worship service music will include Sunday services and all extra services during certain seasons of the church year.
2. Be involved with the Worship and Music Committee.
3. Select music for and direct the Senior Choir—lead rehearsals and direct performances during worship services.
4. Maintain and extend the music library within the allotted budget with awareness of copyright rules and utilization of the church’s subscriptions to CCLI, OneLicense, and Augsburg licensing services.
5. Ensure accurate information is provided for church bulletins and newsletters before the deadline.
6. Give notice of absences within the time frame agreed upon in non-emergency cases.
7. Opportunity to further develop and direct the bell choir.
8. Provide musical leadership for the congregation during worship services.
9. Provide support for children’s music and instrumental ensembles.
10. Encourage and develop musical gifts within the congregation.

Organist/Pianist duties include:

1. Work cooperatively with the Pastors and Music Director in planning and providing worship service music for Sunday worship services and all extra services during certain seasons of the church year.
2. Be involved with the Worship and Music Committee.
3. Select and provide prelude and postlude music.
4. Accompany the Senior Choir during rehearsals and performances during worship services.
5. Provide music for church weddings and funerals as requested with remuneration by the individuals involved.
6. Give notice of absences within the time frame agreed upon in non-emergency cases.
7. Report on the condition and needs of the organ and pianos.
